The Slacker’s Guide to Lofty Expectations

An unpopular opinion.

I feel that people who cheat in relationships should be punished legally. There should be laws in every country that forbid these monsters from trampling over people’s peace of minds and going away without sparing a glance at the garden they just destroyed.

I believe that law gives a lot of importance to an individual’s physical safety, but spares very little attention to their mental being. I mean, yes, I am aware of the laws that protect people from scams, robberies, and frauds, but why is there nothing that protects them from partners that go behind their backs and stab them with the sharpest knives?

I can only imagine the emotional turmoil that a person goes through, when their hearts are broken by partners they believed were their entire worlds. The heartbreak that sometimes never heals. And all they get in return is nothing!! If the person has a little bit of dignity left in them, then they might get a ‘sorry,’ but that’s it?! Is love nothing to these monsters? Are dedication and loyalty nothing but mere words that hold no importance for these ogres?

And how difficult is it to confront partners beforehand? Break up and do whatever you want to do with your life. But no! The option of cheating on their partner seems more attractive to these people. I am not asking you to stay with one person forever (I know you are incapable of doing that), but a little bit of empathy towards somebody you loved at one time might be an indication of some morality, right? Is it so difficult to show a little bit of empathy, instead of choosing a double life of hiding things and making up obscene theories in your head that justify your wrongdoing?

Laws dictate what two people should do when they divorce each other from a marriage, but why doesn’t it intervene in a relationship when one of them engages in such destructive behavior?

Strong power to people who go through these destructive calamities, and may God give some wisdom to the ones who impose this destruction on their loved ones.
